Fabio set for loan deal

Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Fabio will leave Manchester United on loan next season.

The 21-year-old has made only one Premier League appearance this year, mainly featuring in the United reserve team.

He understands the value of playing regularly at a higher level than we can give him at the moment, Sir Alex told United Review.

I hope that Fabio will develop the same way as his twin (Rafael).

Opportunities for the young left-back have been further restricted by the form of Patrice Evra and several injuries.

His 14 appearances have come mainly in the League Cup and Champions League this season.

The Da Silva twins moved to Manchester from Fluminense (without having played in the Brazilian club s first-team) in January 2008, but w…

Arsenal return to top of Premier League with win at Wolves

Arsenal recovered from a horror week by returning to the top of the Premier League with a 2-0 win at Wolves.

The Gunners’ endured potentially season-defining back-to-back defeats as they lost to Aston Villa in the league last Sunday before being knocked out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

But they returned to the summit of the Premier League thanks to goals from Leandro Trossard and Martin Odegaard at Molineux, moving a point above Manchester City, who have a game in hand.

Pep Guardiola’s side were in FA Cup semi-final action on Saturday and, with the Gunners facing Chelsea on Tuesday, they could be four points clear of City by the time the reigning champions next play against Brighton on Thursday.

That would be a big swing in m…

Griezmann will be allowed to leave – Simeone

Antoine Griezmann will be allowed to leave Atletico Madrid at some point , according to coach Diego Simeone.

Griezmann, 26, has been linked with an Atletico exit, with Manchester United among the clubs reported to be interested.

But the France international is contracted until mid-2022 at Atletico, the club he joined from Real Sociedad in 2014.

However, Simeone said Griezmann would be free to leave the LaLiga giants, just as Diego Costa and Arda Turan once were.

I love my players a lot and I love to see them grow. I am not ungrateful, he told L Equipe.

If a player comes to me and says, Coach, I have a once in a lifetime chance to play for a certain team, I want to leave . If he did all he could for me as Griezmann does, I ll say it s no problem.…

It´s not easy to play with this shirt! – Scaloni salutes Argentina desire after Messi penalty winner

Lionel Scaloni sensed anxiety in the Argentina ranks as his team began their Qatar 2022 World Cup mission with a 1-0 win over Ecuador.

Victory came courtesy of Lionel Messi s early penalty after Lucas Ocampos was impeded, with Argentina far from their best at La Bombonera.

A home game in Buenos Aires behind closed doors was an uncomfortable way to start the road to the finals, and Argentina s next game will be no easier as they travel to La Paz to face Bolivia on Tuesday.

Yet Scaloni, who pointed to seven players making their first appearances in World Cup qualifying games, was just happy to get the victory.

We won, which is the most important thing to start a competition of this calibre, he said. The conditions weren t easy, with a fast pitch and no fan…

Rashford future unclear

The Express understands that Marcus Rashford’s future at Manchester United has been thrown into doubt after the club were linked with a move for Ajax forward Justin Kluivert.

There were already question marks over the England international’s place in Jose Mourinho’s squad following the arrival of Alexis Sanchez last month and the addition of Kluivert could see him move further down the pecking order.

Rashford broke into the Red Devils’ first team during the 2015/16 campaign and he has since racked up one hundred and eight appearances in all competitions, scoring twenty-nine goals.

This season he has appeared in all but one of his sides league games so far, though he has started just thirteen of those twenty-five games.

His last goal came in …

Real Madrid become first club to score 1,000 goals among Europe´s elite

Toni Kroos scored Real Madrid s 1,000th Champions League/European Cup goal during their final Group D match against Inter.

The Germany international put the 13-time winners ahead in the 17th minute at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Receiving the ball from Rodrygo 25 yards from goal, Kroos took a touch before drilling a beautiful left-footed strike beyond the reach of Samir Handanovic.

The wonderful effort saw Madrid become the first club to reach four figures in European Cup and Champions League matches (excluding qualifiers).

1,000 Toni Kroos has scored Real Madrid s 1,000th European Cup/Champions League goal, making them the first club to reach that landmark total (excl. qualifiers). Grand.

Talking Point: Is Trent Alexander-Arnold having a poor season, or is he just a victim of his own exc

Over the past couple of seasons, Trent Alexander-Arnold has essentially set the standard for full-backs in the Premier League.

Not only has he been a dependable part of a generally mean defence, but his effectiveness in the final third has helped mark him out from the rest.

A dead-ball specialist, comfortable on the ball and a fine passer, many have even suggested his long-term future could be further up the pitch in midfield – comparisons in this regard with the likes of Philipp Lahm are understandable.

But the adulation has been rather quieter this season. Indeed, he has even been the target of criticism on occasion, which is an awkward position to be in ahead of a huge top-of-the-table clash with bitter rivals and league leaders Manchester United on Sunday.<…

Mancini calls Stramaccioni a ´revelation´

Roberto Mancini has branded Andrea Stramaccioni a revelation in the wake of Inter breaking the club record of nine consecutive away wins.

Two goals from Rodrigo Palacio and one from Fredy Guarin were enough to secure a 3-1 win against Partizan Belgrade in the Europa League on Thursday night, which continued the Nerazzurri s impressive form on their travels.

The City coach, who left San Siro in May 2008, was quick to congratulate his former side and their current boss after their efforts a feat which was achieved by Mancini in the 2006-07 season.

Both he and Inter deserve it, Mancini said, when asked how he felt about his record being broken.

Andrea is young and emerging, which has been a revelation for the team in the first part of the season. At the b…

Farina to keep Sydney working hard

If the Sydney FC players thought Sunday s 2-1 win against Wellington Phoenix will end the twice-a-day training sessions they will be disappointed.

New coach Frank Farina has quickly made his mark at the Sky Blues with the new training regime and the hard work done in the lead-up to their trip to Wellington certainly paid dividends as they notched their first win in the New Zealand capital since 2008 to end a five-game winless streak.

But despite that Farina revealed post-match that his players would be doing a double shift again on Wednesday.

It s not a matter of flogging them. It s not a punishment, Farina said.

It s more so because I m new in the job. I ve only been there eight or nine days. The double sessions are more about getting them to buy into…
